At 8.30pm on 28 March 2009, cities and towns across the world will turn off their lights for one hour – Earth Hour – sending a powerful global message that it’s possible to take action on global warming.
Taking the first step is as easy as turning off a light. By encouraging entire cities to perform this simple act, for just one hour, a powerful message is delivered to the world about the urgent need to address climate change, and shows that it is possible for everyone to make a difference.
Earth Hour 2009 will be a major call to action for every individual, government and business to take responsibility and play a part in ensuring a sustainable future. Iconic buildings and landmarks across Europe, Asia-Pacific, the Middle East and The Americas will go dark. People will join together to celebrate and create a conversation about the future of our planet.
Earth Hour is a message of hope and action. Imagine what we can do if we act together.

Lol, pj, that is why everyone is staying at home during earth hour with their doors lock. and how u can u rape someone in only an hour, not enough pleasure for them.
by the way shuuya, is malaysia participating in earth hour? when u say 8.30pm, is it GMT+8(malaysia time)? coz ur post sounds general and not specific enough.
i mean, lol, i'd like to participate, but if my house is the only one with the lights turned off, i'd be "wtf?!"

Not to turn u guys down... but this event is mainly aimed on government and commercial buildings... beside that, this event targeted on big cities, like KL city center, so the effect of "ligh off" can be record.
Side, when u turn off ur light... u will light up the candle, producing heat and carbon dioxide, making no difference of having switching off the light.
TNB and major power supplies in the world, will suffer a little lost... but this little lost means alot in this current meltdown economy....
and imagine this, at 9.30pm... ur lights are back.. and u find out that, ur car's side windows missing... xD
this event, doesnt contribute anything much... except making the organizer become famous... they should do something that would help the earth such like....
"A Day without Cars"
- Get helps from local authorities to stop the cars and encouraging the citizen to walk, bicycle or public transport.
"No eco-bag, no talk"
- On this, convince the hypermarket, at least once a week... where customer should bring thier eco-bag, and no plastic will be given out.
and much much more... side, try to reactivate the old campaign such like "One house One tree", "Recycle Day" and bla bla bla...

Lights out!Air-conds out!Time to sit down quietly and contemplate on what have we done/can we do for our environment. Besides, mother nature at night is mind relaxing.

Lights off for an hour may seem trivial,but again the goal of Earth Hour is just to drive the message across(and publicity).During this hour,think on what you can do for the environment,like giving TNB a call every hour to promote clean energy to them.

IMO,I think that we should celebrate Earth Hour in a more effective and meaningful way,else we'd give TNB a poor excuse to give us power failures more frequently in the name of Earth!

Anti-Earth Hour? Here's my 5 cents worth of opinions.Just promote a campaign that encourages everybody to turn on their air-conds 24/7.The current consumed by your campaign will outweigh Earth Hour's effort by a ratio of 10 to 1. /gg

seriously i just dont understand, how can "shut off light" for an hour can save the world in the next 8759 hours?
earth hour aim's to show they can change the world by.....
Make it short.. it is something like "sikit sikit lama lama jadi bukit" ... about awareness... something like.. for example,
1. if u can participate to turn off ur light for 1 hour, that means u are also able to recycle ur stuff...
2. if u can participate to turn off ur light for 1 hour, that means u are also able to throw ur waste properly, instead of dumping it to river...
3. bla bla bla...

well, i think lights gives off radiation that causes global warming. so, a big city with alot of lights will give off quite a lot heat into the atmosphere

yeap, thats true... beside that, to power up our electricity, our TNB been using natural resources such like woods and oils aka the old type of generator while in other countries, they were using nuclear, hydro or winds...
an event that can help to reduce 0.000141% radiation, wow, that's alot :D
